NEW ORLEANS, Dec. 9 (AP) --

Chris Paul routinely spends a few minutes after practice heaving some long-range shots.

Good thing for the Hornets he does.

Paul's 28-foot rainbow at the shot clock buzzer late in the fourth quarter gave New Orleans the lead for good in a 91-88 victory over the Seattle SuperSonics on Sunday night.

"I love the shots with the shot clock running down,'' Paul said, winking. "Nobody expects me to make them.

"It was probably like a lucky shot,'' Paul added. "I knew once the shot clock was running down, I was going to shoot it and luckily I made one. If that doesn't go, the whole tempo of the game may change. Crazy stuff happens and I'll take it.' '

If that shot was lucky, Paul still made a number of big plays that weren't.

He finished 29 points and 10 assists to carry the undermanned Hornets, who won their second straight game without regular starters Morris Peterson (back strain) and Peja Stojakovic (pulled groin).

The performance came two nights after Paul scored a career-high 43 points in a victory over Memphis.

All he needed was a little help from David West, who hit a crucial jump shot and driving one-handed floater in the final minutes to finish with 15 points and 10 rebounds as the Hornets won their second straight while snapping Seattle's two-game winning streak.

"Late in the game, CP and myself, we want to be the guys taking the shots,'' West said. "I missed a few there before, but again, (Paul) said he would keep on coming back to me and I was able to make a couple down the stretch to help us out.''

Coming off a 35-point performance in a victory over Milwaukee on Friday night, Kevin Durant scored 23 against the Hornets, including his second 3-pointer of the game with 24.1 seconds to go to get the Sonics as close as 86-85. But after Bobby Jackson made a pair of clutch free throws at the other end, Durant missed a driving one-handed floater with 14.9 seconds
to go.

West made one of two free throws to push New Orleans' lead to 89-85, but Earl Watson's 3 with 7 seconds left forced the Hornets to continue making free throws.

Jannero Pargo missed two foul shots with 6 seconds left, but Seattle gave the game away when Nick Collison's inaccurate pass up court caused Durant to step on the sideline as he hauled it in. That led to Paul's free throws for the final margin.

All but six of Seattle's players have six years or fewer in the NBA, and Hornets coach Byron Scott said the Sonics' youth probably hurt them in the end.

"They just haven't figured out how to win games like that yet,'' Scott said. "Basically, they just gave it right back to us after we missed a couple of free throws.''

Although Durant led Seattle in scoring, it wasn't one of his better shooting nights. He was 7-of-22 from the field.

Tyson Chandler had 10 points for the Hornets.

Wally Szczerbiak scored 14 for Seattle. Chris Wilcox had 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Kurt Thomas had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Watson scored 12 points.

After trailing by double digits through most of the first half, Seattle opened the third quarter with a 12-2 run to pull to 54-53. Thomas scored eight points during the run and 12 in the quarter, and Durant's fast-break layup tied the game at 60.

The game remained tight from there, with Durant putting Seattle ahead 78-77 on a driving dunk with 4:22 to go.

"You can't dig a hole like we did,'' Seattle coach P.J. Carlesimo said. "In the second half, we were focused and played really well. But you get in a close game on the road, you can lose the game.''

Paul bailed out New Orleans with his long 3-pointer. Paul then set up his floater with a behind-the-back dribble through the lane to put New Orleans up 82-78.

With his roster shortened, Scott gave a first career start to rookie Julian Wright, a former Kansas standout who had experience guarding Durant when this year's second overall draft choice played at Texas. Rasual Butler also got a rare start for New Orleans.

The lineup worked well early, with Wright scoring from close range and Butler hitting a 3-pointer to help the Hornets jump out to a quick double-digit lead.

New Orleans led 52-41 at halftime.

Notes: Wright finished his first career start with six points, six rebounds, three assists and a steal in 38 minutes. ... Thomas left the game for good in the fourth quarter after getting hit in the mouth and needing stitches. .. Seattle G Luke Ridnour, who had missed the Sonics' previous 12 games with a left quadriceps injury, returned against New Orleans. He played about 12 minutes and scored three points. ... Seattle G Delonte West (right foot plantar fasciitis) was inactive. ... Butler fouled out with 1:35 to go when he broke up an alley-oop pass for Durant. ... New Orleans outshot Seattle 53.5 percent to 36.6 percent in the first half, when Chandler had three dunks, two on alley-oops. ... Attendance was announced at 10,773.

그렇다면 농구에서는?

4쿼터 5초 남겨놓은 상황에서 공격팀이 2점 뒤진 상황이 아닐런지?

중계보는데 자꾸 맥 끊는다고 4쿼터 작전타임을 싫어하는 사람들도 있지만

나는 그 시간이 가장 흥분되고 흥미진진한 것 같다

오늘 뉴올과 시애틀의 경기 역시

경기를 보기위해 쓴 시간이 아깝지 않을만큼

신나는 경기였다

우선 NOH vs SEA 경기는 내게 볼거리가 풍성한 경기였다

요즘 뉴올과 크리스폴은 호감도가 급상승 중이고

무엇보다 내가 이 게임에서 기대했던 것은

슈퍼루키 케빈 듀란트의 경기를 처음으로 관람하는거였다

3쿼터까지 시애틀이 5점차 이내로 계속 리드 당하는 경기를 하고 있었는데

4쿼터 중반 타이를 이뤄내고 결국은

경기 첫 리드를 잡으면서

두 팀은 경기 종료까지 역전에 재역전을 거듭하는 경기를 펼쳤다

4쿼터는 그야말로 농구의 묘미를 한껏 보여준 긴장감 넘치는 시간이었다

듀란트의 돌파후 덩크로 경기는 78-77 시애틀이 한 점 앞선 상황이었고

남은 시간은 4:23

3,4쿼터 들어 FG성공률에 난조를 보이던 두팀은 공방을 주고 받더니

크리스폴의 그림같은 3점포가 터졌다

(이 장면에서 너무 크게 '와' 하고 소리를 지르고 말았다)

이후 주거니 받거니를 거듭한 끝에

86-82 뉴올이 4점 앞서 거의 승기를 잡은 상황에서

경기종료 31초를 남긴 상황에서 바비잭슨이 시도한 3점슛이 실패하면서

시애틀은 남아있던 타임아웃을 신청한다

30초 타임아웃이 끝난 뒤

번개처럼 하프코트를 넘어와 리드노어가 듀란트에게 패스

한번의 페이크 모션으로 마크맨을 제껴낸 듀란트가 3점포를 꽂아넣었다

순식간에 경기는 86-85 그 끝을 알 수 없게 되어버렸고

남은 시간은 24초

마지막 타임아웃까지 사용하면서

승부수를 던진 시애틀은 뉴올이 공격이 시작되자마자 바비잭슨에게 파울을하고

자유투 2개를 허용하면서

경기는 88-85 상황

남은시간은 20초

다시한번 재빠르게 듀란트에게 공이 연결되었으나

듀란트가 레이업을 실패함으로서 모든 것이 끝난듯 보였다

하지만 다시한번 D.웨스트에게 자유투 2개를 허용하고

웨스트가 1개를 성공함으로서

89-85 남은 시간은 14초

다시한번 빠르게 하프코트를 넘어와 듀란트의 볼

크리스폴의 마크가 거세자

반대쪽에 비어있던 얼 왓슨에게 듀란트가 환상적인 어시스트를 제공했고

왓슨이 3점포를 성공시킴으로서 다시 경기는 89-88

크리스폴이 공격을 채 시작하기도 전에 파울이 범해졌고

남은시간은 7초

뉴올리언스의 작전타임이 끝나고 크리스 폴이 두개의 자유투를 성공시킴으로서

경기는 91-88

져비악이나 듀란트, 왓슨이 한방을 제공한다면

연장까지 갈수 있는 상황

시애틀은 마지막 슈터로 져비악을 택했다

거친 마크를 겨우 뚫고 불안정한 자세로 슛!

하지만 야속한 볼은 림을 맞고 나오고 챈들러가 리바운드하면서

경기는 91-88로 마무리됐다

글로 적어놓으니까 전혀 긴장감도없고 흥분도 덜한데

관심있는 농자들은 꼭 경기를 다운받아보기바란다

사실 오늘 경기는 뉴올보다도 듀란트의 활약에 많은 기대를 걸고있었는데

제대로 경기를 보기 시작한 3쿼터에 고작 2득점을하고 벤치에서 주구장창 쉬길래

오늘은 글렀구나 생각했거늘

그런 위기상황에서 굵직한 3점포에 중요한 어시스트까지 올리다니..

케빈 듀란트, 넌 역시 슈퍼루키, 차기 에이스 재목, 올해 ROY 1순위다

파커의 뒤를 이어 나의 호감선수 2위를 차지하고있는

크리스폴도 29점 10어시스트로 더블-더블을 기록하며 팀 승리에 크게 공헌했다

특히 내가 환호하게 만든 4쿼터의 3점포와 플로터, 그리고 경기에 쐐기를 박은 자유투는

가히 환상적이었다고 말하고싶다

며칠간 안나와서 나를 의아하게 했던 페야와 모 피터슨은 부상중이라고했다

웨스트도 뉴올의 2옵션으로서 좋은 활약을 보여줬고

챈들러도 점점 자리를 잡아가는 모습이었다

폴과 합작해낸 앨리웁은 정말 ㄷㄷㄷ

ORLANDO, Fla., Dec. 7 (AP) -- The Orlando Magic have been the best road team in the NBA this season, but the Indiana Pacers might be headed in that direction.

Danny Granger poured in a season-high 27 points and the Pacers rallied from a 15-point second half deficit to beat Orlando 115-109 on Friday night.

It was Indiana's fifth win in its last six road games, including four against Western Conference opponents. The Pacers put seven players in double figures, including 20 from Jamaal Tinsley, 15 from Jermaine O'Neal and 13 from reserve guard Marquis Daniels.

"Winning on the road is the first step toward being a good team in this league,'' Granger said. "And rallying from 15 points against a team like Orlando is a really good sign. We didn't do anything fancy. We just stayed with it, forced them into turnovers and hit some shots.''

Tinsley directed the comeback, scoring 14 of his 20 points and handing six of his 10 assists in the second half. He scored seven straight points and had two assists during a 14-1 run in the middle of the fourth quarter that put Indiana in control.

"Jamaal is making big plays on a pretty regular basis,'' Indiana coach Jim O'Brien said. "He pretty much orchestrated the whole thing. He knew exactly what we wanted down the stretch and did a great job of getting guys to the right spot to make plays.''

The Magic, playing at home for the first time after winning four of five games on a West Coast trip, lived and died behind the 3-point line. Orlando hit seven of 17 treys in taking a 62-54 halftime lead, but only 5-of-18 during a forgettable second-half collapse.

The Magic also turned it over 23 times and allowed the Pacers to shoot 48.8 percent in the second half. Dwight Howard led Orlando with 30 points and 15 rebounds and Rashard Lewis contributed 24 points, but neither could stop the bleeding.

"Our shooting was bad in the second half, but we lost the game at the defensive end of the floor,'' Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said. "We were awful defensively. We got totally outplayed.

"These are some of the same problems we had on the (West Coast) trip, but we shot our way out of it. Tonight, we couldn't shoot our way out of it.''

Notes: Tinsley had 10-plus assists for the ninth time in the last 11 games. ... The Magic are averaging nearly 10 points more per game this season - 104.5 to 94.8 - than they last season. ... 스포츠는 정말 각본 없는 드라마다

이미 각본에 따라 모든 결말이 나와있는 영화나 드라마와는 차원이 다르다

그게 스포츠경기를 생중계로 시청하는 재미인 것 같다

그래서 요즘은 녹화경기를 기피하고

화질이나 속도면에서 좀 안습이더라도 라이브 경기를 선호하는 편이다

이미 결과가 나와있는 경기를 보는건 왠지 김이 빠지니까

오늘 인디애나와 올랜도의 경기도 그런 손에 땀을 쥐게하는 드라마였다

1,2쿼터와 3쿼터 중반까지 인디애나는 시종 경기를 압도당했다

"대괴수" 혹은 "뽕사마" 드와잇 하워드는 정말 말도 안되는 위압감으로

골밑을 완전히 장악했고

요즘 제 컨디션이 아니라는 JO도 괴수를 막아내기엔 역부족이었다

게다가 터키조던 터클루와 루이스도 상대방의 의욕을 꺾는 한방들을 날려줬고

넬슨과 아로요는 준수한 리딩능력으로 공격을 이끌었다

무엇보다 2쿼터 후반 3연속 3점포를 날려대던 보건스의 활약이 발군이었다

분위기상 도저히 인디애나가 넘어설 수 있는 경기가 아닌듯 싶었다

하지만 농구는 분위기 싸움인지라

3쿼터 후반부터 그레인저의 외각포가 살아나기 시작하면서

급기야 3쿼터 종료 버저가 울릴때 인디애나는 3점차까지 올랜도를 바짝 추격했다

설마 지겠냐 생각했지만

인디애나는 그레인저의 외각포와 JO, 포스터, 머피가 골밑공략 찬스를 침착하게 살림으로서

결국 4쿼터 초반 첫 리드를 잡았다

물론 4쿼터동안 올랜도에게도 역전의 충분히 주어졌으나

고비때마다 한 방씩 터뜨려주던 루이스와 터클루가 침묵함으로서

점점 공격이 급해졌고

급기야 난사 자멸모드로 돌아섬으로서

20점차까지 완전히 이겼던 경기를 내주는 결과를 낳고야 말았다

팀은 졌지만 대괴수 하워드사마는 오늘도 30-15를 찍으셨다

안보고는 모른다 괴수님의 포스....

비록 전경기를 보지는 못했지만 뉴올리언스와 멤피스의 경기도 시청했다

3쿼터 후반부터 보기 시작했는데

이 경기도 그때까지는 뉴올리언스가 완전히 제압한 경기였다

4쿼터 시작때까지만 해도 10점차 정도의 여유를 가지고 시작했으나

오늘의 수훈갑인 루디 게이와 로우리의 활약으로

결국 타이를 만들어 냄으로서 두팀의 경기는 연장에 돌입했다

연장전의 사나이는 크리스 폴이었다

4쿼터 초반부터 심판판정에 상당히 불만을 갖고있던 폴은

감정적으로 꽤 달아오른 상태로 연장전에 임했는데

해결사 기질을 발휘하면서 팀을 승리로 이끌었다

음 이 경기를 보면서 느낀건

1. 요즘 크리스폴/뉴올리언스 호감도 상승중

2. 루디 게이, 또다른 케빈 마틴의 탄생인가? 궁금하다
